Jacquie's Diary for 12th May 2008
Hi everyone, It has been a strange week …
Monday first I must tell you that 'Bedrock the pig' although appeared to be doing well died in her sleep during the day. All Sian and Woody's sleepless nights didn't help, but she did seem to enjoy her short life. Bedrock was buried next to Tubby in the garden; we need to plant some flower seeds there now. Cuddles and Duddles the goat kids wouldn't drink their milk this morning, I sent Lew off to buy new teats, we can't buy proper animal teats here so I went onto the internet and ordered some from England. Granddad had ten more eggs for hatching.
Tuesday I had toothache and had to resort to tablets. It has been playing me up for months but it is getting worse. The same one played me up just after we arrived and I went to a Romanian dentist - never again. She didn't use any anaesthetic and it was a big filling. I have been putting off going to the dentist for months but I can't put it off anymore.
Wednesday Sian and I were on the road by eight, the plate with our name on it is ready to be fitted into our new till, but it wasn't straight forward, we had to go with paperwork to three different offices 30 kilometres apart. Tablets were keeping the toothache away but I knew I would need to go to the dentist today. Tori made an appointment with her dentist for me but Sian and I couldn't find it. However, we did find another dentist who looked good and we decided I would go there. It was a good practice with up-to-date methods, after x-raying my teeth he decided that two teeth would need to be extracted. He found I had an infection under one of the teeth so I had to have penicillin tablets. Sian wasn't sure about going shopping but we needed food for the family and us so we went shopping. By the time we got home the anaesthetic was beginning to wear off and the pain was starting but I took the painkillers the dentist had given me and the pain was soon gone and I slept well.
Thursday Sian and Woody took over for me today I was not in a fit state to do very much today. It was Sian's birthday and she spent the day cleaning out pigs and things, I spent most of the day asleep. I am not allowed to eat for four days, only have soups and yoghurts; good thing we are not going out for dinner for Sian's birthday till Sunday.
Friday Keeping the baby goats away from there mother is being a bit of a problem they can squeeze through the smallest gap. I had to leave most of the work to Sian and Woody.
Saturday Lew goes with Nicoletta to buy the paint to brighten their room; with Romanian paint this needs doing every year, especially as they have a fire in the room. Nicoletta chooses a pale green; this seems to be the favourite colour for walls here. Lew has been trying to get glass to mend the door and window but at the moment we can't track down glass!!! They have done a temporary repair with bubble wrap and a large, clear, plastic bag. Sian and I go to get the family their supplies for the weekend, when we take them down Nicoletta insists we stay for a coffee. They have already started painting; one of the beds has been removed which has given the children a bit of room to play in. Dana and Ionuts have a banana as soon as they are unpacked, then they have some bread and cheese. Then Ionuts shows us how he can park his toy car in a space made by some pencils. It was a late dinner for us.
Sunday The pigs had a load of weeds including the big one that was in the corner of the garden. They were given a mud bath, which they enjoyed. Everything has to run early today because we are going out to dinner with our friends Laura and Decibel; baby David was being looked after by his grandmother. I was going to order an omelette but they had changed the menu, so I had lasagne. While we were out the new teats arrived in the post from England, they were left in the letterbox for us. Of course we had to feed the kids when we arrived home, so we tried out the new teats, the kids drank well with them.
What's been happening in the village this week? The tractors are still planting. The kids have been playing in the roads when it was sunny. Election fever has taken hold - the election is held on 31st May.
Well I think that's all the news from Siminoc this week … So I'll say cheerio for now …
