Growing Care is a charitable organisation run by the founders, Lewis and Jacquie Aubry. This particular project started in 2002 with the purchase of land in Siminoc, Southern Romania. The land is gradually being turned into a smallholding, which will be used to teach animal husbandry and cultivation skills to Romanian youngsters in the hope that it will enable them to break out of the poverty cycle.

This smallholding project in Siminoc will also help to give a small but essential boost to the local community. When livestock is slaughtered and butchered some of the meat is distributed to local poor families and the rest is frozen for future use. Minced pork is used in many Romanian dishes.

The small touring caravan in which they arrived in Siminoc has until recently been the main part of their home. The awning section blew away during a storm, the temporary block built area that replaced it, has become the kitchen. This area has now been extended to create a living room.

Isle of Wight Rotary Clubs have been very generous by sending over lorries loaded with warm clothing and many other items that have enabled Growing Care to help the poor of the area.

Funding is our biggest problem as we rely entirely on the generosity of people like yourselves.

Unfortunately, Solent Coasts Cycling Challenge, who have raised the lions share of our funding over recent years, have decided there are more deserving causes and will not be including Growing Care after 2011.

When in the UK, Lew and Jacquie attend a church that is local to their home at Chandlers Ford in the south of England. Members of the congregation help the charity by sending donations of money.

Growing Care would like to thank all the riders who take part in this annual cycling event, for their donations to date, for which we are extremely grateful.  However, replacing this funding is going to be very difficult and we are now having to decide the best way to continue our work for the families and children with radically reduced funding.  Any Ideas?

Growing Care would like to thank
